Hello! I’m Elizabeth D. Warburton, a.k.a. Liz, and I am an architectural historian based in Metrowest Boston, by way of Providence, RI. I have over fifteen years of experience in the historic preservation field, and I’m always seeking creative freelance opportunities. Let’s collaborate!
I’ve been visiting historic sites, museums, and libraries for as long as I can remember. My favorite childhood memories include family road trips to the Adirondacks in upstate New York. I would stare out the car window at houses, farms, and roadside attractions and looked forward to visiting the John Brown Farm State Historic Site on every trip. Though I didn’t know it then, I was developing a lifelong appreciation for old places and exploration of the built environment.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in History and Anthropology from Rhode Island College (RIC) in Providence, RI and a Master’s degree in Historic Preservation from The University of Vermont (UVM) in Burlington, VT. Currently a private sector Preservation Planner, my professional experience includes work in state government, nonprofits, and higher ed, with each position centered on historic places and spaces. I am a proven leader, with experience managing staff and complex projects, and an expert researcher and writer. Check out some of my favorite projects I’ve worked on under the Press & Projects tab.
I have held numerous leadership positions, including serving as the President of the New England chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians (NESAH), a Trustee of Providence Preservation Society (PPS), and a Director of the Rhode Island College Alumni Association. I encourage you to learn about and support each of these amazing organizations.
When I’m not working, you can find me taking photos or daydreaming about my next road trip.
